Fun Ways to Celebrate Halloween at Home with Your Family

The Halloween season is looking a little different this year with the COVID-19 pandemic. Trick-or-treating might be questionable due to social distancing but it shouldn’t mean our children can’t celebrate and enjoy the holiday this year. The CDC provides some helpful tips with fun and creative ways to celebrate Halloween safely at home.

We have listed a few ideas to get creative with your Halloween activities this season, but the opportunities are endless!

  • Pumpkin Carving - Pick out some pumpkins with various shapes and sizes and have your kids make their own interpretation of a carved pumpkin. While you're at it, roast the pumpkin seeds with some olive oil, salt, and pepper for a nice little treat.

  • Halloween Movie Night - Find some kid-friendly shows on Disney+, or any of your media service providers, and watch some entertaining Halloween themed movies.

  • Halloween Crafts - This helpful resource at goodhousekeeping.com has a list of creative craft ideas!

  • Trick-or-Treating In Your Own Home- Have your children dress up as their favorite character and set up baskets of candy outside each room of your home. Have your kiddos go door-to-door to trick-or-treat inside the house for some Halloween fun.

  • Halloween Costume Themed Dinner- Get the whole family involved by dressing up as your favorite character and prepare a spooky dinner that everyone can enjoy!

  • Socially Distanced Costume Parade With Your Neighbors- Coordinate with your neighbors a costume parade for the kids in the neighborhood. Have your children dress up in their costume and mask, of course, and march to fun Halloween music.

  • Halloween Scavenger Hunt- Hide clues attached with candies around your home and have your kiddos search around the house until they find the final treasure.

  • Looking at Neighbors Halloween Decorations- Go on an evening walk and enjoy the Halloween decorations around your neighborhood.

  • Decorating Halloween Cookies- Check out this awesome Halloween sugar cookie recipe. It’s one of our favorites!

Have a wonderful and safe Halloween!
